In love with the Louvre!

I usually skip museums when I travel - I always feel there's so much to see outside. The Louvre was my first exception! The small group was just right for me - expert guide, resourceful, knew all the shortcuts, and at a decent price, too. I don't know how we'd have done it on our own - so many people wandering lost around the museum, I was sooo glad that wasn't me. The skip-the-line option was a huge relief. The Louvre is massive and it blew me away, in many ways. Well done for this tour and see you again, I hope!

Louvre - an impressive museum!

OK, I have to admit that I lived in Paris for 10 years and never set foot in the Louvre. It is great to visit it with a guide, ideally in a small group. Especially if you are going for the first time and don't have time to prepare, as was the case with us. We had a casual, patient guide, a true expert. After more than two hours of his guidance, I can say that I left enriched for a great experience. Now I know I will return to the Louvre every time I visit Paris. It is a great wealth of humanity. My bow to the Louvre!

Louvre Small-group Tour

WORLD’S LARGEST MUSEUM

Welcome to the capital of artworks - the Louvre Museum! On our Louvre small-group tour, you will explore the largest museum in the world - spanning over 72,000 square meters and housing more than 380,000 works of art; the Louvre is a treasure of history and culture. It was initially built as a fortress in 1190 and later transformed into a royal palace. Finally, the period of the French Revolution turned it into a museum as we know it today. A well-versed guide will securely lead you through its settings and take care of you to see it all - from ancient times until the 19th century.

WITNESS LOUVRE’S TREASURES

Each artwork in the Louvre tells its unique story. And there are so many! It is beyond words to come face to face with the oldest exhibited object of the Louvre - the "Ain Ghazal Statue", which is about 9,000 years old. This Neolithic sculpture is considered the oldest human statue ever found. Or, imagine what it was like 3,800 years ago to create the "Code of Hammurabi", one of the oldest legal texts in the world. If you have ever asked yourself why one should visit the Louvre, you will now find out that the right question would be: is there one single reason one should not visit it?

TAKE PICTURE WITH THE WORLD HISTORY CELEBRITIES!

The Louvre is a kind of global hotspot, historically and artistically. Let's assume that this is precisely the place where celebrities from all over the world and from all time gather. You will mingle between Mona Lisa, Nike, Venus, and Aphrodite! All at the same time and in one place. Listen, maybe they have something to tell you? All are available for taking photos, selfies, or a little reflection on the meaning of life while standing next to them. The Louvre is a place to be!

Interesting facts about the Louvre

LOUVRE AS A ROYAL RESIDENCE

King Philip II of France built the Louvre as a fortress in the late 12th century. Its primary purpose was to defend Paris from potential attacks, particularly from the west, where the Seine River provided an entry point. Over time, as Paris expanded and the need for a fortress diminished, the Louvre went through several transformations. In the 16th century, under King Francis I, it was converted into a royal palace. It wasn’t until the French Revolution in 1793 that the Louvre was officially opened as a public museum showcasing the nation’s art and cultural treasures.

WORKS OF ART EVACUATED IN THE WWII

A special story is also associated with the Louvre and the 2nd World War. At that time, thanks to Jacques Jaujard, a senior civil servant in the French art administration, around four thousand works of art were evacuated from the museum out of fear that the Nazis would steal them in the event of an occupation. The artworks were transported to safety in 1,900 boxes using a total of 200 trucks. Their locations were changed several times during the war.

A GLIMPSE INTO ANCIENT LAW

On the Louvre Small-Group Tour, you will see the "Code of Hammurabi", an artifact from ancient Mesopotamia. It represents one of the earliest collections of written laws, 282 precisely, in the history of mankind. The common phrase "An eye for an eye" is used in the text of Hammurabi's Code. It is made from basalt, an extremely hard volcanic rock that is hard to work with. That makes the accuracy of the engravings even more impressive!

The Louvre is a place full of rich history, art, and culture—and that’s why the best ways to visit this world-famous museum are the Louvre Small Group Tour or the Louvre Private Tour, both designed to help you experience its highlights and hidden gems in the most meaningful way.
