It was very convenient to purchase both an entry ticket to the Louvre and a cruise entrance ticket at once. The highlight of the Louvre was seeing the Mona Lisa, but I also enjoyed seeing the Napoleon III Apartments. It was like I exited the museum and stepped into a palace. The Seine cruise was a unique way to see the landmarks, including Notre Dame. An unforgettable experience I’d recommend to anyone!
Walking through the Louvre felt like I entered a time machine. Seeing the Near Eastern Antiquities and the ancient Code of Hammurabi was surreal. I also loved seeing the Roman sculptures, especially the statue of Marcus Aurelius. This was one of my favorite museum visits ever, and the Seine cruise was the perfect way to end the day.

ENTER THE LOUVRE MUSEUM
Located right at the heart of Paris, the Louvre is one of Paris’ most recognizable landmarks and the largest museum in the world. You will enter through the Pyramid, the Louvre’s main entrance, using the ‘Visitors with Tickets’ queue, and start exploring over 35,000 works of art and their stories.

You’ll enter the Louvre at Cour Napoléon, which is at street level. To begin exploring, descend to Hall Napoléon at the underground level. There you’ll see exhibits of French and European sculptures such as Erhart’s Saint Mary Magdalene, and Near Eastern, Egyptian, and Islamic works of art. As you move to the next level, don’t miss seeing the Statue of Marcellus as Hermes and Michelangelo’s The Dying Slave, amongst other European sculptures.

While on the ground floor, keep your eyes peeled for the famous Venus de Milo located in the Greek Antiquities section. As you move up to the first floor, you’ll see a section of European decorative arts, including the Napoleon III Apartments, where he hosted formal receptions and state dinners. The first floor is also home to the Mona Lisa, Delacroix’s Liberty Leading the People, and a collection of French Crown Jewels in the Galerie d’Apollon.
UNWIND ON A BOAT ON THE SEINE RIVER
After exploring the Louvre, if you opted for a Seine cruise, you are free to board the boat at your leisure. Float on the Seine River and admire the famous landmarks along the riverbank. You’ll see Les Invalides, where Napoleon I is buried, Notre Dame Cathedral, the Conciergerie, the Musée d'Orsay, and much more. Did you know that the Mona Lisa was stolen from the Louvre?
In 1911, an Italian handyman, Vincenzo Peruggia, briefly worked at the Louvre fitting glass on paintings, including the Mona Lisa. He believed that the painting was wrongfully taken to France and that it should have been exhibited in Italy. So, on August 21st, he hid in the museum after closing, removed the Mona Lisa from its frame, hid it under his smock, and walked out of the museum.
The theft was discovered the next day, causing an immediate media sensation and a police investigation. Peruggia kept the painting hidden in his Paris apartment for two years, and in 1913, he tried to sell the painting to a French art dealer in Florence. This ultimately led to his discovery as the dealer contacted the authorities. Peruggia was arrested, and the Mona Lisa was returned to the Louvre. While this 1911 disappearance turned the portrait into a global icon, it wasn't the only time thieves set their sights on Da Vinci’s masterpiece.
