We enjoyed the first morning look at Mona Lisa smile!

Wow! Face to face with Mona Lisa - finally! Until now, I thought - well, it's just a picture. However, the moment I saw her live, it was a really special experience. There are so many stories about her, some of which I already knew and many of which we learned from our guide. He used every second to provide us with a wealth of information. When you walk through those endless corridors, and the guide tells you that it used to be a palace where people lived... you're left in awe, although that's to be expected. An early morning tour of the Louvre museum and a morning view of the Mona Lisa almost alone - I definitely recommend it. Do that when visiting Paris!

A morning tour to remember!

My goal for this tour was actually to study statues and sculptures in peace. But, well, of course, Mona Lisa's famous smile also... The guide was a great relief in that case, and the first-morning entrance to the museum provided us with really great conditions for sightseeing. I was fascinated by the statues of Venus de Milo and the Winged Victory from Samothrace. I am engaged in sketching motifs used in design and tattooing, so I devoted a huge part of the tour to exploring the details. For me, this is a great value!

DESCRIPTION

Louvre Early Morning Tour

SEMI-PRIVATE GUIDED TOUR

Your guide will be awaiting you in front of the glass pyramid at the Louvre. After your small group of six people meets up for the Louvre early morning tour, you will be escorted to start your experience. Immediately, you will head straight to the Mona Lisa painting and witness it from as close as possible. At this point, your guide will teach you about the Mona Lisa's history and some interesting facts surrounding the famous painting. Did you know that the Mona Lisa receives fan mail to this day?

EXPLORE THE ICONIC HIGHLIGHTS OF THE LOUVRE

Apart from the Mona Lisa, you will view other highlights at the Louvre. One of those famous highlights is the ancient statue of Venus de Milo. This statue depicts Aphrodite, the Greek goddess of love, whose counterpart in Roman mythology is Venus. Originally carved by Alexandros of Antioch, this statue is over 6 feet 7 inches (2 meters) tall and made of Parian marble. Venus de Milo is dated around the 2nd century BC. The other very famous piece of art in the Louvre is the Winged Victory of Samothrace. Also dating back to the 2nd century BC, this 18-foot (5.5-meter) tall statue (when including the base into the height) depicts the goddess Nike, or the Greek goddess of Victory. She is famously missing her head and arms, which were never retrieved from the ruins where she was found.

Does the Winged Victory of Samothrace at the top of the main stairs in the Louvre remind you of something?

If you take a closer look at the Winged Victory of Samothrace, you will notice an asymmetric shape. This is due to the condition in which the statue was discovered. Her wing goes slightly to the side. The owners of today's very famous sports brand just resonated with this when considering the design of their logo. The company, originally named Blue Ribbon Sports in 1964, was rebranded to a much more familiar name in 1971 - Nike. Nike (the statue) had a wing off to the side, which inspired the owners Bill Bowerman and Phil Knight to create the now easily recognizable logo, and the name of the Greek goddess became the brand name we all know today.
